Mezzo-soprano, Stage Director, Vocal Instructor
Amanda Weis is a performing artist and stage director who divides her time between private vocal instruction and performing and directing throughout the Twin Cities and greater area. Ms. Weis obtained her BA in vocal music at the College of St.Benedict/St. John’s University and her Masters of Music at the University of MN, Duluth. Collegiately, she has studied classical vocal music and opera, while also participating in musical theatre and vocal jazz opportunities and study. Ms. Weis has performed leading and supporting roles with such companies as Minneapolis Musical Theatre, Duluth Playhouse, St. Croix Off Broadway Dinner Theatre, Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company, Really Spicy Opera, and the Paul Bunyan Playhouse, among other noted houses.
Ms. Weis is an active stage director as well. In 2016, she stage-directed Verdi’s Rigoletto for Really Spicy Opera’s tenth season. For the Totino Grace Fine Arts Academy, Amanda has directed such shows as Shrek Jr, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, School House Rock Live Jr, Lion King JR, and Willy Wonka JR. In July 2017, Ms. Weis assistant directed Mozart’s Don Giovanni in Waimea, Hawaii, for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. She also music directed High Fidelity for Minneapolis Musical Theatre, earning herself a Broadway World Minneapolis regional nomination for best musical direction and a nomination for Favorite Musical Director with the Twin Cities Blogger's Theatre Awards. Ms. Weis was the vocal director for the national tour Nick Jr Live, a new work from Nickelodeon and VStar Entertainment.
Ms. Weis joined Open Window Theatre in 2021 as coordinator of their Youth Actors Academy, after directing a performance of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown.
Amanda Weis is a member of NATS - National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Amanda is also a solo and ensemble contest judge for the
Minnesota State High School League under the name Amanda McGivern.
